Every year, around 1500 students enter the well-known campus of IIT Roorkee, chasing their dreams. After spending two or more years following a tough and tiring study routine, they finally get the chance to shape their future. Once they finish their degrees, some students go for higher studies, join business schools, or start their own companies. But many of them choose to sit for campus placements - which, for a lot of students, is the main reason they joined an IIT.
Placements are often seen as the final test of everything students have done during their time at college. The process includes several steps: from online tests to group discussions and finally, the stressful interviews. In this report, Watch Out! shares the placement numbers and highlights from 2025.
The placement season has two parts. The first part runs from December 1 to December 15. The second part starts in the first week of February and continues until the end of May. But the placement work begins much earlier. Companies start asking for resumes and conducting tests from the first week of October, and this continues for about two and a half months.
In the first phase, companies begin with short presentations. Then they shortlist resumes, hold written or online tests, and finally conduct interviews starting December 1. To help students prepare, the Placement and Internship Cell (PIC) runs workshops in partnership with Career Launcher and Pariksha.com.
Number of PPOs = 221
Number of Offers Made (including PPOs) = 724

As a trend for every year, the percentage of students placed for circuital branches (CSE, ECE, EE) were the highest.

Some noteworthy companies that offered PPOs were Google (16), Texas Instruments (15), Goldman Sachs (9), Microsoft (5), Jaguar (5), Samsung Research Institute (13), Oracle (9), JP Morgan (5), Adobe (6).
We have categorized offered roles in the following broad profiles:
The majority of the offers, as usual, were for Software Development Engineer (SDE) positions, with 201 placements provided by 60 companies. This was followed by PM/Consulting, Core Engineering and Data-related roles, with 113, 92 and 70 offers respectively, from 32, 37 and 20 companies.
The number of offers from design companies remains relatively low at 1. However, with the recent introduction of B. Des courses, we can anticipate an increase in interest from design companies in the years ahead.
As in previous years, Software Development (SDE) roles remained dominant-attracting the largest number of companies and generating the highest number of offers. Core engineering and Data Science roles maintained a consistent presence, though offers remained lower compared to SDE. Consulting offers saw an increase this year, reflecting growing interest in this profile across recruiters.
As before, on-campus placements proved more structured and accessible than off-campus processes, largely due to the coordination by the Placement and Internship Cell (PIC). However, students targeting niche roles-especially in Quant, Finance, and UX/UI-often found themselves looking off-campus due to limited campus presence of relevant companies. This trend has remained unchanged from 2024 and reflects the need for broader company outreach.
Slotting decisions by the PIC continued to significantly affect outcomes. In both 2024 and 2025, early-slot companies received more attention and yielded better results, while late-slot firms-often in core or consulting-struggled to convert shortlists into offers. This recurring issue reinforces how logistical priorities can shape placement outcomes as much as student capabilities.
It’s important to remember that placements are not the sole indicator of success. Interview outcomes vary, and not being placed immediately does not reflect one’s full potential. Many paths exist beyond campus-often requiring persistence, clarity, and confidence.
We hope this serves as a helpful reference for the next batch of students heading towards the placement season.
