Internships are not just another item on a college checklist. For many students, they are the first real taste of the world beyond classrooms and campus. After years of preparing for entrance exams and finally stepping into college life, students enjoy a bit of freedom to explore, try new things, and figure out where their interests truly lie. But just when things start to feel easy, along comes the intern season. Whether it is something related to your branch or something completely different, whether you are aiming for a big-name company or just testing the waters, almost everyone finds themselves pulled into the rush. It is a chance to see what all those years of education might actually lead to. In this report, Watch Out! takes a look at the 2024 internship season at IIT Roorkee, covering everything from the numbers to the stories. With about 80% of internships getting finalized between July and September, it is the busiest time of the year. But the season does not end there, as opportunities keep coming in through the rest of the academic year, giving students more chances to land something that clicks.

This year, many students showed interest in the Web 3.0 space and went for off-campus internships in this field. Since these companies don’t officially take part in the campus process yet, we haven’t included them in our data. But with its growing popularity among students, there’s a good chance Web 3.0 companies might come for on-campus drives in the future.
Students have shown interest in research internships this year as well, although that data is not included here. Official announcements regarding research internship applications can be found on the Channel-i noticeboard, in emails from dean.ir@iitr.ac.in, or on the website [ir.iitr.ac.in/OutboundStudents] https://ir.iitr.ac.in/OutboundStudents.
The number of offers from design companies stayed in single digits. But with the new B.Des course starting, there is a good chance that more design companies will start showing interest in the coming years.
